World Cup Russia’s other side: Army of prostitutes getting ready

On the eve of the football championship, Russian authorities are advancing on brothels that seem to be well-prepared for the 2018 World Cup.

According to the British newspaper Daily Mail, every third English fan who goes to the championship dreams about Russian beauties… or rather about having sex with them. In this context, fans from other countries hardly differ from their English fellows, which Russian criminals involved in the sex industry are well aware of.

Over the last few months, there has been a real ‘mobilisation’. Girls from Moldova, Ukraine, Nigeria, Central Asia have been taken to Moscow and other big cities. According to St. Petersburg Crisis Center For Women, thousands are arriving in Russia from Africa. Although Nigerian mafia promised them mountains and marvels, but in the best case scenario they will make only about $7-8 on a client. In the worst – they will just work out the cost of their travel to the Russian Federation.

In Russia, there are about 1.5 million prostitutes. Over the past weeks, the number of sex workers increased from 800 to 8,000 only in St. Petersburg. A call girl in a football uniform is the latest hit.

Russian law provides for monetary penalty for prostitution. For pimping, one may land up in prison.

Meanwhile, Russian television channels show video raids on brothels almost every week. As a rule, there are very brutal scenes: Beatings and forcing to admit guilt in front of cameras are ordinary practices. Interestingly, Russian nationalists take part in such raids. They say they do it in order to clear the society. After such raids, they kick prostitutes out of the flats and shave their heads. In such a way, criminal clans might be getting rid of unwanted rivals.

Undocumented women (mostly migrants) are deported at a quick pace. In Moscow, there have been reports about taking prostitutes and homeless people out of the city.
