'White Legion' case defendant Ian Mikhalkou released from prison


Son of the “Patriot” club head, Ian Mikhalkou, who had been detained in the framework of the “White Legion” criminal case, was released from jail on 29 April. The conditions of his release are still unknown.

His father Mikalai Mikhalkou, however, remains behind bars, Human Rights Center “Vyasna” reports.

Ian Mikhalkou was arrested on March 21, his father — on March 24. At first they were kept in the KGB jail, where they were officially charged under part 3 of article 293 of the Criminal Code. Later, both were transferred to the “Valadarka” prison.

Thus, there are still 18 people on charges of “preparation of mass disorders” (part 3 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code) behind bars, 16 of them are also held in the case brought under Article 287 of the Criminal Code: “formation of an illegal armed group”.

According to human rights defenders, Ian and Mikalai Mihalkou are two of the three defendants in the case, who have not been additionally charged with illegal armed groups.
