‘We work faster’: Chinese building plant in Hrodna

A Celestial Empire in miniature has appeared near the Belarusian city of Hrodna – about one hundred Chinese workers who are building a waste sorting plant have settled here.

They brought their cooks, appliances and even a sauce for soup to Belarus. The company built two dormitories and a canteen for its foreign employees, a project coordinator told the newspaper ‘Evening Hrodna’.

Chinese builders do not leave the town; otherwise it would be hard to control them, he adds.

According to the newspaper, Chinese workers are very modest in everyday life: there are two bunk beds, a table and a shelf, a mirror and a laptop in most of their rooms, things hang on strings stretched across the rooms.

On average, each earns 1,000 dollars per month, but in comparison to Belarusians, they work much faster, the project coordinator states. In total, the construction of the plant will cost $28.7 mln.
