“Sooner or later they will have to answer,” BelaPAN quoted the KGB head.
“If there is evidence that a Belarus citizen is taking part in armed conflict as a mercenary for money, he must bear the responsibility. People kill people. How can we treat it? Then they come here, having the experience of killing people. We must think about this problem, we need to solve it.’
Mr Vakulchyk also spoke about all the spies, traitors and personae non grata in the history of independent Belarus.
“Over the time of independent Belarus, three people have been convicted under article 258 of the Criminal Code (espionage) and 11 – under Article 356 of the Criminal Code (high treason). Last year alone, there were four such traitors. Persona non grata status was given to 10 diplomats.”
Latest spy case took place in May. At the time, intelligence officers detained a foreign state officer, Mr Vakulchyk did not specify the country name. Currently, the detained officer is in the KGB prison.
