Utilities and energy prices on the rise in Belarus

Last year, administratively regulated prices rose almost two times faster than those that were regulated by the free market only.

While the record low inflation, a little more than 4.5%, was registered in 2017, the increase in regulated prices amounted to more than 8%, the National Bank of Belarus reports.

Thus, the low inflation rate in the last year provided a record low rise in prices for goods and services that are not regulated by the state.

In December 2017, prices also fell due to Christmas and New Year sales. Thus, prices for clothing and shoes, which are not regulated by the above, decreased compared to November by nearly half a percentage point, and for the year — by 2.5%. Today, the government regulates the prices of utilities, spirits, energy, as well as a number of socially important goods.
