US TV networks drop Russia Today


Two television operators refused to broadcast the Russian government channel. Their broadcast networks cover most major American cities.

American cable television operator ComCast Chicago announced its decision not to renew the RT broadcasting agreement in its region straing from October 1, 2018, citing the US National Defense Authority Act. The John McCain amendment allows companies, to refuse to broadcast content that is controlled or funded by the Russian government without giving reasons, RBC reports.

Earlier, the American cable TV operator Spectrum, owned by the American telecommunications company Charter Communications, refused to broadcast RT.

The coverage of these two networks includes most major cities, including New York, San Diego, Los Angeles and Chicago.

In September 2017, the US Department of Justice demanded that the broadcaster, which served RT, registered as a foreign agent. RT America fulfilled this requirement, but in November 2017 journalists were denied accreditation for Congress.

In response, Russia adopted a law that recognizes foreign media agents who receive funding from abroad – Voice of America, Radio Liberty, Faktograf and others. Realities.
