Separatists still holding 139 Ukrainians captive - Kyiv

The unrecognised Donetsk and Luhansk republics are still holding 139 Ukrainians captive, Irina Gerashchenko, the Ukrainian president’s plenipotentiary on a peaceful settlement in Donbas, said.

According to her, another 788 people go missing, bbc.com reports.

“The issue of liberation andskip tracing will be one of the key subjects at the Normandy format foreign ministers meeting in Berlin on November 6,” added Ms. Gerashchenko.

On Thursday, a prisoner swap took place in Donbas. Nine Ukrainian citizens – eight soldiers and one civilian – were released. The Ukrainian side delivered 11 prisoners to the self-proclaimed republics.

It is to be recalled that Russia continues to keep Ukrainian pilot Nadiya Savchenko in jail. Russia accuses Nadiya Savchenko of murdering two TV journalists, who were killed during the fighting in Donbas, and illegal border crossing. The pilot denies any wrongdoing and says that she was kidnapped on the territory of Ukraine and taken to Russia by force.
