Ukraine, separatists sign protocol on ceasefire in Minsk


The Ukrainian side and representatives of the self-proclaimed Donetsk people’s Republic and Luhansk People’s Republic have signed a protocol on ceasefire in Donbas from 5 September, 18.00 on, Interfax Ukraine reports referring to sources close to the negotiation process.

“The protocol includes 14 points covering all the aspects of monitoring, prisoners’ swap, etc,” a source said.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko confirms that the Ukrainian government and pro-Russian separatists have signed a preliminary protocol to start a ceasefire.

In the contact group Ukraine is represented by former president Leonid Kuchma, Russia by its ambassador to Ukraine Mikhail Zurabov, and the OSCE by its chairperson-in-office on Ukraine Heidi TagliaviniAlexander ZakharchenkoAndrey PurginIgor Plotnitsky represent the two unrecognised republics.
