Ukraine and Belarus will use hryvnia for bilateral international payments. The agreement was adopted at the end of the 23rd session of the Intergovernmental Belarusian-Ukrainian mixed group on trade and economic cooperation.

The agreement was reached at the request of the Belarusian side, korrespondent.net reports with reference to the press service of the Ukraine Cabinet of Ministers.

Ukrainian delegation at the meeting was represented by co-chair of the commission, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Regional Development, Construction and Housing and Communal Services of Ukraine Gennady Zubko.

“Following the talks, we turned to the National Bank of Ukraine with a number of suggestions that will help streamline and revitalize trade between our two countries, and have come up with a positive solution. For bilateral settlements, Ukraine and Belarus will be using not foreign currency, in particular the dollar, but the hryvnia,” said Mr Zubko.

In addition, Ukraine and Belarus plan to consider the resumption of electricity supply between the two countries, as well as the transit of the Ukrainian electric energy via Belarus. The necessary consultations will be held in the near future.

The other day, Ukraine asked Belarus to explore the possibility of transit of the Lithuanian natural gas for Ukrainian consumers via its territory.
