Centralized storage of spent nuclear fuel will be placed in the Charnobyl zone.
For the construction of the storage government of Ukraine plans to receive a loan of US $260 million, said Ukraine’s Minister of Energy and Coal Industry Igor Nasalik.
The construction of the repository will be done by a US company ‘Holtec International’. The facility will be launched in 2017.
The decision to build a nuclear burial ground was actually taken by the Ukrainian leadership in 2012. The tender for the construction of the cemetery was first held in 2004, writes economics.unian.net. The final decision on the allocation of 45 hectares for the construction of storage was adopted in Ukraine in 2014.
