Uber in Belarus: Joint work on driverless cars brewing, govt support promised


The Belarus government will take the necessary steps to tackle issues relating to the legal regulation of Uber’s operation in the country, Prime Minister Andrey Kabyakou said when meet with the company’s top managers on Wednesday.

“Within a comparatively short time you have secured good results in passenger transportation. You have introduced new technologies that can make travels comfortable for passengers and more transparent from the point of view of taxation,” he said.

According to the official, addressing legal issues Uber’s operation in Belarus will take into account ‘interests of the both sides’.

Andrey Kabyakou also praised Uber’s initiative to cooperate with Belarus’ Hi-Tech Park. Its Director Usevalad Yancheuski and Pierre-Dimitri Gore-Coty, head of Uber’s operations in Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), signed a cooperation agreement, BelTA has learned. The major aspects of the document are opening Uber’s R&D center in the Hi-Tech Park and joint work on driverless transport.

Uber Company was established in 2009. Today it is the world’s largest service for organizing passenger transportation using smartphone apps. At the momet, Uber is present in 78 countries.
