Man accused of attacking police died in Zhodzina prison

The case of the 37-year-old Ihar Barbashynski from Slutsk of forceful resistance to law enforcers on duty has been reviewed in the Slutsk district court for the second month.

In late March, Ihar and his brother Ivan were returning home after from a night cafe. The men were detained by police and charged with public intoxication. Later the guys were taken to the sobering-up station, newspaper ‘Novy Chas’ writes.

The next day an ambulance was called to the station that took the brothers to the clinic. Doctors found them to have fractured ribs and numerous bruises. The brothers wrote a statement to the Slutsk police station of being beating by the police and then learned that a criminal case of violent actions against the police officers was launched against them. In June the Barbashynski brothers were again arrested and placed in pre-trial detention center in Zhodzina.

In August, three court hearings were held, during which the case made an unpleasant turn for the policemen. Judicial review of the case was not yet completed, the accused asked for additional examination, which, in their opinion, would prove their innocence.
