'Non-parasites' march banned in Hrodna

Local authorities quote the decision of the executive committee from 2011, banning such events on the Soviet Square, Soviet Street, and Lenin Square.

Members of independent trade unions applied for holding a rally in the city center on 19 February.

The ‘Non-parasites’ march is planned for February 17 by former presidential candidate Mikalai Statkevich. The United Civil Party is preparing such rallies in Minsk, Mahiliou and Homiel on March 15. In other cities, people are joining forces to collect signatures for the abolition of the tax, that the unemployed have to pay before February 20.

Despite the statement by Lukashenka that only a few thousands people are unhappy about the Decree #3, several hundreds of thousands of Belarusian citizens oppose it.

The campaign to collect signatures for the abolition of the Decree began on 17 January. Incidentally, there is a week left to pay the ‘parasite’ tax. The tax was already paid only by 46,000 Belarusians, which is less than 10% of “parasites”.
