Two Belarusians suspected of stealing $4 mln from bank in Russia

Moscow police detained two Belarusians suspected of stealing a large sum of money from the International Bank for Finance and Investment.

Law enforcers believe that Alena Melnikava (born in 1975), Head of the bank treasury, and Dzyanis Tsimafeyuk (born in 1990), Head of Lending and Investment department , stole 251.7 mln Russian rubles (appr. $4.4 mln).

The duo was arrested on April, 28.

Knowing that the bank stored over 200 mln rubles which belonged to the credit institution, Melnikava allegedly decided to take possession of the money. Tsimafeyuk was to cover up the crime by issuing false debit documents proving that the money in question had been given to bank customers as loans.

Russia’s Investigative Committee initiated a criminal case against them for misappropriation or embezzlement. The both suspects are under travel restriction now.
