Turchynov predicts continental war in case of renewed fighting in Donbas

Secretary of the Ukraine National Security and Defense, Oleksandr Turchynov, said that if fighting resumed in Donbas, it would be in the most dangerous level and could turn into a full continental war.

According to UNIAN, he said this during a discussion on “Democracy and Authoritarianism: war is not against one, but against all” at the 8th Kyiv Security Forum.

According to Turchynov, the fact that Russia continues to concentrate the weapons and equipment in Donbas and at the border indicates that it is doing everything to default Minsk Agreement and restore military activities at any moment.

“Hiding behind the cynical talk that it contributes to a peaceful settlement, Russia continues to concentrate arms, military equipment in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine. There is a concentration of Russian troops on the border with our country,” said Mr Turchinov.

In addition, Mr Turchinov considers that in case of resumption of hostilities in Donbass, the fighting will be more hazardous.

“We must speak clearly and understand that if hostilities resumed, it would happen at the highest and most dangerous level. These hostilities could escalate into a full continental war,” said the secretary of the NSDC.
