Syrian militants claim they shot down Russian helicopter

A Syrian militant group claim they have shot down a Russian helicopter on Tuesday.

According to them, the helicopter was hit by an anti-tank missile, meduza.io reports.

Furthermore, Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a London-based organisation, has informed news agency Reuters of militants’ downing the helicopter. However, the Russian authorities have not officially confirmed the statement yet.

Hezbollah, a Lebanese Shia radical movement, says that the Russian helicopter was never shot down – it only had to force-land. The persons on board were not injured.

On Tuesday morning Turkish F-16 fighters shot down a Russian Sukhoi Su-24 warplane which violated the country’s airspace 10 times within a five-minute period, according to Ankara.

Today at a press conference, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the incident a ‘stab in the back dealt to us by the accomplices of terrorism’. He also promised ‘serious consequences’ for Russian-Turkish relations.
