Russian citizens among arrested ‘infiltrators’ who planned attacks in Crimea - source

There are Russians among the detainees who were allegedly involved in preparing terrorist attacks in Crimea, news agency Interfax reports with reference to an anonymous law enforcer.

According to the source, 3-4 persons of the seven are citizens of Russia. ‘Special attention is being given to them,’ the agency quotes the source.

All the persons arrested are reported to have admitted their guilt and be giving evidence.

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) announced on Wednesday it had discovered a group of infiltrators in Crimea close to the Ukrainian border. According to them, explosive devices and ammunition used by the Ukrainian Army’s special forces were discovered at the scene, while more attempts by Ukrainian raiding and terrorist groups to break through had been prevented by Russian forces this week; a FSB officer and a serviceman were killed, they say.

The FSB states that Ukraine’s inteligence officer Evgeny A. Panov, a resident of Zaporizhia region, was one of the organizers. According to them, he is now giving confessions.

Commenting on the FSB report, Russian leader Vladimir Putin blamed Kyiv for turning to the ‘practice of terrorism’ instead of trying to peacefully resolve the crisis. In response, Petro Poroshenko called Russia’s accusing Ukraine of terrorism in occupied Crimea ‘absurd’ and ‘cynical’.
