Swiss fans find themselves in troubled Donbas instead of 2018 World Cup match

A group of Swiss fans who were going to a 2018 World Cup sporting event in Russia’s Rostov-on-Don got very close to the front line in Ukraine’s Donbas.

Their navigator set a path through separatist-controlled Donetsk, Ukrainian journalist and volunteer Anna Dombrovskaya said on Facebook.

According to her, the foreigners did not even know that armed hostilities were taking place in eastern Ukraine. The fans even intended to spend a night in occupied Amvrosiivka.

The Brazil-Switzerland match they were to attend was held in Rostov-on-Don on 17 June.
