Svetlahorsk dwellers in protest against local pulp plant

A bleached pulp plant was opened near Svetlahorsk just recently. The enterprise has not even reached its production capacity, but people from the neighborhood are already complaining about the stink. They go out to protest, turn to the authorities with demands to stop the operation of the enterprise.

On February 8, residents of Svetlahorsk and the village of Yakimava Slabada came out for another protest.

The plant was built on the base of a local pulp and paper mill. The construction began in 2012. Its cost was about $ 1 billion.

It is planned that after commissioning, the Svetlahorsk pulp and paper mill would process 2.5 million cubic meters of timber annually and produce 400,000 tons of sulphated bleached pulp, of which the Dobrush plant will produce 200,000 tons of cardboard.
