Sky as birthday gift: Belarusians wish Lukashenka's imprisoned opponent early release
On August 12, Belarusian Internet users and human rights activists held an action ‘Sky For Mikalai Statkevich’ in support of the imprisoned politician who is still strong in spirit. They took photos of the sky in different corners of the earth and posted the pictures in social networks using the hashtag #Sky4Statkevich.
Mikalai Statkevich, the only imprisoned ex-presidential candidate, had to celebrate his 59th birthday in a solitary cell in Mahiliou prison No 4. According to his wife Maryna Adamovich, the politician hardly expects the authorities to release him before the 2015 presidential election.
