Armed people seized buildings in the centre of Grozny, Chechnya. One of them filmed and released a video in which he statet his groups are ‘Mudzhakhids’ and says their actions are ‘revenge for harassment of Muslim women’.
According to Russian media, unknown armed individuals attacked a traffic control post in Grozny and killed three officers. In the centre of the Chechen capital there were shootings and fights all night long. Ramzan Kadyrov, head of the Chechen Republic, tried to assure people that militants ‘would be finished off in a moment.’
After a skirmish at the traffic post the attackers headed for the centre of the city and seized the building of the House of Press. Then the gunmen to a schoolbuilding where they were trapped by police.
It is still unknown how many people have been killed and wounded in total. The death toll is reported to mount to 10.
After a storm the House of Press has burnt down. The authorities might state that the number of assaulters does not exceed 8 but sixable forces have been massed to fight against them. Huge police presence, secret services and armoured vehicles are seen in the city.
