Savchenko starts eating chicken soup after 80 days' hunger strike - Interfax

Ukraine’s pilot Nadiya Savchenko who is being kept in Russia’s prison has agreed to have some chicken soup, the country’s Federal Penitentiary Service told Interfax.

Savchenko has been on a hunger strike for more than 80 days, the Russian federal prison authority said on Thursday.

“Today Nadiya Savchenko agreed to comply with the recommendations of doctors on supporting her health state and agreed to have chicken soup,” a FPS press officer said.

According to the pilot, she was abducted in eastern Ukraine and secretly taken to Russia. Moscow states that Savchenko visited Russia under the pretence of a refugee and was arrested. Russia accuses her of killing two journalists.

The Ukrainian officer declared she would be on a hunger strike until Russia finds her innocent and delivers her to Ukraine. Russia has repeatedly rejected Western calls for her release.

Nadiya Savchenko is also a MP and member of the country’s delegation to PACE.
