Savchenko on hunger strike: Fever, weakness, cold hands

Russia’s Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) is set to send Ukrainian aviatrix Nadiya Savchenko to a hospital. However, Savchenko has not given her consent so far, her defense lawyer Ilya Novikov wrote on Facebook.

“I have just seen Nadiya Savchenko. She feels better after receiving intravenous treatment, but I say „better” only comparing to her last weekend’s condition when she felt very bad.  In addition to general weakness, her hands are cold and she is running a fever. Blood tests done on April 10 showed abnormal blood density,” Novikov said.

According to Novikov, FSIN chiefs panicked and after a year and a half gave Savchenko a second mattress. Now, to ‘play it safe’, they are seeking her transfer to a hospital, the lawyer stressed.

Nadiya so far doesn’t agree and insists the Russian side allow Ukrainian doctors to examine her. Her sister Vira is to visit the pilot on April, 14.

Nadiya Savchenko went on thirst and hunger strike on April, 6.

On March 22, the Donetsk city court of the Rostov region found her guilty of murdering two Russian journalists and sentenced her to 22 years in prison. The sentence has come into effect.

The pilot denies her guilt. According to the defense, she was kidnapped by terrorists in LPR and then taken out to Russia. Savchenko has been in custody since July 2014.
