Russians stay at home: Fewer people can afford trips abroad

New data have been published by Russia’s Federal Agency for Tourism.

The tourist traffic from Russia in Q1 has decreased by 40 percent. The number of Russians who opted for popular vacation destinations in Spain, Italy and Greece has fallen respectively by 41, 31 and 29 percent.

The same situation is seen in Russians’ travelling to other countries of the continent. The attendance of the Czech Republic, Austria, Germany and France by Russian tourists has been down by 30 – 50 percent.

And, perhaps, political choices and aversion to European Union countries for not recognizing the annexation of Crimea and its support in Ukraine are not the case. A sharp drop may be accounted for the lack of heavy purses: there is a much smaller influx of Russians in other tourist directions as well: a number of sold tours to Egypt has fallen by a quarter, to Turkey – by a third.
