Russian troll factory spends $5 mln on social networks posting


The Russian company Moscow Information Technology (MIT), which is 51% owned by Moscow City Government, gor a grant-in-aid in the amount of 312.7 mln Russian rubles (about $5 mln) for posts on social media.

In official documents such posts are mentioned as ‘mock-up information products’, meduza.io reports with reference to a source in Moscow authorities. The fact of allocating the money was also confirmed by a former employee of MIT.

According to the agreements with MIT, even $660 is/was paid for one post in social media.

Over the last two years, Moscow Information Technology and related companies have received subsidies to the tune of 7.1 bn rubles ($116 mln) from the city administration.
