Russian town utility providers sell monuments to World War II dead even for $200


Peter the Great, two Lenins and several memorials to the soldiers killed in the Great Patriotic War are on sale in the town of Prokopyevsk (Russia’s Kemerovo region).

One can purchase 46 monuments for 5.3 mln Russian rubles (about $ 84,400) until June, 27.

All the monuments belong to the Municipal Road Management enterprise which went bankrupt. Its debts totalled to 86 mln Russian rubles ($ 1.34 mln).

The enterprise also owns transport stops, toilets and public baths. All its property has been listed for sale.

On May 17, the following lots appeared on the electronic trading platform Fabrikant (‘Manufacturer’):

Monument to poet Alexander Pushkin – 650,000 rubles ($10,100);

Obelisk to the Losev brothers who died during the Great Patriotic War – 250,000 rubles ($3,900):

memorial site in Victory Square – 25,000 Russian rubles ($390):
