Andrey Fedorkov, 37, a lawyer at the HRC ‘Russian verdict’, and his associate Ivan Solovyov were detained in Minsk. Today they are to appear before court.

Yaraslau Zhuryk, a resident of Minsk, who came to meet the visitors from Russia was also detained.

The human rights defenders arrived in Minsk on October, 25.

“I called Yaraslau at 17.30. he said their trio was detained in the street ‘for no reason’ and there were at a police station in Kabushkin Street. He managed to say they would have to stand trial on Monday at 10 am in Zavadzki district court in Minsk. Then I heard someone saying ‘Enough!’ Yaraslau said goodbye and he has not been available since that time,” Yuliya, a member of the people’s socialist community ‘Narodnaya Volya’, told Belsat.

The girl asked not to mention her surname.

There were no spectators of the arrest. Yuliya learnt from the police that the two Russian human rights defenders and their Belarusian friend were charged with petty crime (Art. 17.1 of the Belarusian Criminal Code). They were kept in the predetention centre in Akrestsin Street.

Andrey Fedorkov is known for his providing free legal aid to detained participants of opposition rallies in Russia.
