Russian man detained for attempt to smuggle 36 kilograms of hashish into Belarus


The Ministry of Internal Affairs has reported on the closure of the cannabis delivery channel “from Europe to the territory of the Eurasian Economic Union”.

Employees of the Chief Department for Drug Control of the MIA, together with customs officers and border guards, have detained a Russian citizen at one of the border points, the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reports.

In the car of the Kaliningrad resident, the police found 36 kilograms of hashish. The drug stash was hidden in the car’s petrol tank.

The man explained that he did not know there were drugs in the gas tank of his car. According to him, he had bought the car a week before in Moscow.

The Investigative Committee launched criminal proceedings under Part 3 of Art. 328 of the Criminal Code of Belarus (“Illicit traffic in narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances or their analogues”). The Russian citizen faces up to 15 years of imprisonment.

On April 13, the State Border Committee reported on stopping a car of a 28-year-old resident of the Brest region, who, returning from Poland, tried to smuggle 92 kg of hashish in a minibus.
