Russian court extends Savchenko's arrest for six months


On Tuesday Donetsk city court in Russia’s Rostov region resumed the hearing of the case of Nadiya Savchenko, a Ukrainian pilot, MP and member of the Ukrainian delegation to PACE.

The court decided to extend Savchenko’s being under for another six months, Savchenko’s lawyer Mark Feygin said on Twitter on Tuesday:  

The defense lawyer asked to release Savchenko against the guarantees of the Consul of Ukraine or vary the preventive measure. In their turn, prosecutors requested to extend the arrest.

Nadiya Savchenko faces up to 25 years in prison. In Russia, the Ukrainian woman is accused of murdering two TV journalists, who were killed during the fighting in Donbas, and illegal border crossing. The pilot denies any wrongdoing and says that she was kidnapped on the territory of Ukraine and taken to Russia by force.
