Russian-backed separatists may take over Ukrainian plants, stop coal supplies

Pro-Russian separatist leaders in Donetsk and Luhansk demand that Kyiv lift the transport blockade of Donbas before spring.

“We have to declare that, unless the blockade is lifted by 00:00 a.m. on Wednesday (March 1, 2017), we will appoint external management at every enterprise under Ukrainian jurisdiction operating in the Donetsk and Luhansk republics,” their statement says.

In such a way Alexander Zakharchenko and Igor Plotnitsky responded to the blockade started by Ukrainian ex-servicemen.

The leaders of the self-proclaimed republics also threaten to stop coal supplies to Kyiv.

“We will stop coal supply to Ukraine. There is neither the possibility nor a payment plan for coal supplies,” they stress.

The Ukrainian government urges former fighters to end the blockade.
