Ukrainian army positions in eastern Ukraine were attacked more than 80 times overnight, the press center of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) said on its Facebook page on Wednesday.
“The defenders of Ukraine repelled two attacks of the Russian mercenaries near the towns of Schastia and Avdiyivka,” the report says.
From 18:00 to midnight on July 28, the militants fired guns and mortars on Ukrainian positions in other regions as well, Ukrainian news agency unian.net reports.
According to the ATO press center, at 16:30 Russian proxies launched an attack on the ATO troops near Schastia with the use of 120mm and 82mm mortars and tanks. About 100 mercenaries were in this group. The fight lasted for nearly three hours, the separatists sustained casualties and retreated, the press center stated.
In addition, about 30 militants made an attempt to occupy a fortified position of Ukrainian troops near Avdiyivka.
The Ukrainian military had no casualties in the military clashes near Schastia and Avdiyivka.
“The defenders of Ukraine do not fall for enemy provocations, resolutely repelling enemy attacks and firmly holding their defensive positions,” the press center stressed.
