Russia triples funds for promotion of Russian language in CIS and Europe


The amount of money allocated for the promotion of the Russian language abroad has been tripled. Rossotrudnichestvo, the federal agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States, Compatriots Living Abroad and International Humanitarian Cooperation, is going to promote the Russian language primarily in the CIS countries.

Funding the program ‘Russian Language’ is to be increased by three times in 2016-2020 when compared with the previous program, Lyubov Glebova, Head of ‘Rossotrudnichestvo’, told newspaper ‘Izvestia’.

2 bn Russian rubles (appr. $37,76 mln) is to be spent on cultivating the Rusian language, mainly in the CIS countries.

“They are our closest neighbors, members of economic integration, we are bound up with common historical roots, we have broad prospects of humanitarian alliance,” Glebova said.

In addition, it is planned to promote the Russian language in Europe as well.
