Russia to sell Angola Su-30K destroyers kept in Belarus

Russia plans to sell Angola six Su-30K planes kept in Belarus since 2011.

The news that Russian and Belarusian specialists are looking for potential buyers of six Su-30K, which are currently kept in Belarus, came from “Kommersant” with reference to a source in the aviation industry.

According to the newspaper, in 1996-1998, the “Irkut” corporation signed a contract to supply Su-30MKI fighters to the Indian Air Force, but due to the need to prepare for the deployment of serial production of new aircraft, the customer received simplified versions of fighters with the prommise to replace them in the future. These obligations have been met: a simplified fighter was replaced with the Su-30MKI, and in 2011 18 Su-30K aircraft returned by India were transfered to the 558th aircraft repair plant in Baranavichy, after which the “Rosoboronexport” began looking for potential buyers.

“Kommersant” would not, however, specify, why 18 Russian fighter jets have been stored on the territory of Belarus for six years.
