Russia extradites Belarus blogger who lambasted Lukashenka, Putin


Belarusian-born Eduard Palchys aka Jhon Silver was transferred from Russia’s Bryansk predetention centre to Minsk remand prison as far back as May 26, opposition politician Pavel Sevyarynets said on Facebook.

 

The news was confirmed by the blogger’s acquaintances. Today they are going to hand over a parcel for him.

Jhon Silver created 1863x.com, a blog dedicated to analysis of the current political developments in Belarus, Russia and Ukraine, as well as Belarusian history and culture. The unsigned materials sharply criticize the regime of Lukashenka and Putin.

According to Silver, two criminal cases were brought against him last year for his activities in the blog – for allegedly inciting ethnic strife (in particular, for the article ‘kill the Russian World’ )and spreading pornography.

The blogger decided to hide in Ukraine. All the while he lived in Kyiv, from where he continued to work on the blog. But when the blogger went to a meeting in Russia in January 2016, he was arrested and put in jail.

Website ‘Sputnik i Pogrom’, a voice of radical Russian nationalists, was the first to report about the arrest of the Belarusian. In the article “How Ethnic Pole Helped Belarusians Develop Anti-Russian nationalism: Morality Tale” Kiryl Avyaryanau-Minski identified him as Eduard Palchys, a ‘practicing Catholic’ and ‘ethnic Pole’.

As reported before, Sputnik i Pogrom’s Yegor Prosvirnin called on Russia to seize or even destroy Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan.
