Russia destroys about 320 tons of sanctioned EU food in one day. Peaches, cherries next in turn


On August 6, Russia disposed of 290 tons of sanctioned vegetable-based products and 29.3 tons of products of animal origin, Rosselkhoznadzor, Russia’s Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance, said.

The batch of cheese which was brought into Belgorod region of Russia without proper documents was liquidated first. The truck drivers were not able to give intelligible explanations in respect of the origin of products, korrespondent.net reports.

On Friday, August 7, the process of destruction is to continue.

In particular, such severe measures may concern vehicles carrying fruit inspected in Bryansk region. Nectarines, peaches, cherries had a phytosanitary certificate issued in Belarus on the basis of re-export certificates in Moldova and Greece, and certificates of Turkey, the country of their origin.

However, according to the department, the Turkish authorities have not confirmed the authenticity of these certificates.

The total weight of the cargo is 270 tons.

On July 29, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree that enacted incinerating agricultural products that are prohibited from being imported into Russia.

The first batch of sanctions food was destroyed in Samara on August, 4.

Alexander Tkachev, Head of Russia’s Ministry of Agriculture, said that sanctions products must be destroyed as they may be dangerous to health of Russians.

Over 250,000 Russians have protested against the destruction of fresh food and spoken for their transfer to the poor citizens.
