Russia-Belarus: Roaming charges may be scrapped in 2018

Russia’s Liberal Democratic Party has introduced a draft bill on scrapping of roaming charges for Belarus to the State Duma.

Roaming in the territory of the Union State may be canceled in 2018,  the document says.

According to the draft bill, among the CIS countries, Belarus takes the lead in consistently pursuing an economic integration with Russia. Russian and Belarusian subscribers will also be able to use the Internet per internal tariffs of the Union State mobile service operators.

“For the further deepening of integration within the Union State, we should work in many fields, including that of mobile communications,” the document reads.

In late June, Russia’s Communications Ministry supported the proposal to scrap international roaming between Russia and Belarus.
