Rally in occupied Donetsk: Hundreds of participants

Residents of the separatist-controlled city of Donetsk staged a protest against the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. Its representatives are watching development of the conflict in Donbas.

The protesters gathered near the hotel where they are staying. They held posters: “Your silence is killing children,” “While you live happily, civilians are dying!”

The members of the OSCE mission came to talk with the protesters, but were unable to calm them.

“We have already realised that we do not need the OSCE mission here,” a woman holding a picture of a destroyed house shouted.

“They are just sitting here and eating for free. Let them go and stay in basements where our children die. Let our kids live here, in the hotel,” another woman said.

The protesters wrote on OSCE and Red Cross cars: “We want peace” and “Donetsk for peace.”

The action took place a few days after Donetsk had been shelled and a lot buildings had been destroyed. The Ukrainian military and pro-Russian separatists accuse each other of shelling residential areas.

On June 15, outraged residents of Donetsk blocked the streets and demanded that the separatis leaders of the unrecognised Donetsk republic should stop shelling.

Over 6,500 people have died since the beginning of the conflict in eastern Ukraine. The number of attacks have decreased after the peace agreement was signed five months ago in Minsk, but the two sides keep blaming accused each other for violations of the truce.
