Rain or shine: Belarus to host Junior Eurovision in 2018

Whatever place a representative of Belarus takes this year, Minsk will host the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in November, 2018.

In accordance with the Eurovision Song Contest regulations, a winner country hosts the show in the following year, but different rules are applied when organising Eurovision for kids: the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) elects the host. Every broadcaster, which is a member of the EBU, has the right to submit its bid. Belarus’ Belteleradiocompany (BT) did so, and the Union approved the application, the website of the state-run mediaholding says.

In 2010, Belteleradiocompany was responsible for holding the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.

Belarus won the contest two times – in 2005, Kseniya Sitnik took the lead with her song We Are Together, in 2007 – Alyaksei Zhyhalkovich (song With Friends) was awarded the first prize. Last year, Alyaksandr Minyonak was seventh.

Helena Meraai will represent Belarus at this year’s Junior Eurovision which is to take placce in Tbilisi, Georgia on November, 26. The girl will perform the song I Am The One.
