Quadcopter launched illegally in Belarusian border area seized from Lithuanian citizen

Lithuanian citizen launched a quadcopter in the border zone of Belarus without the permission of border guards, Belarus State Border Committee reports.

On February 18, Belarus border guards noticed a quadcopter in the Belarusian airspace three kilometers away from the border with Lithuania, near Smorgon. Later, near the village of Zharneli, border guards detained a 22-year-old citizen of Lithuania with a remote control of the quad.

The young man is a student of one of Minsk universities, who came to stay with relatives and decided to test the new equipment.

However, according to the Belarusian legislation, the beginning and the end of use of aircraft weighing more than 1 kg in the border zone must be provided to border officials.

Actions of the young man are qualified under article 23.30 of the Administrative Code (violation of the border regime). The young man faces a fine of up to 20 base units with or without deportation. The aircraft was seized for examination.

Flying aircraft models in the border strip is prohibited. Flying such models in the border zone is possible, but only after notification of the relevant Border Service officials.
