Putin orders sudden combat readiness check ahead of joint Russia-China-Mongolia drills


A set of 16 special drills is underway in the run-up to large-scale Vostok-2018 maneuvers in the east of the country, Russia’s defense minister Sergei Shoigu said on Monday.

According to him, a sudden combat readiness check kicked off in Russia’s Central and Eastern Military Districts, long-range and military transport aviation on order by Supreme Commander-in-Chief Vladimir Putin.

The forthcoming international military exercise Vostok-2018 which is due in September.is expected to be ‘unprecedented in scale’.

“It is going to be the largest one since Zapad-81. It will be unprecedented in terms of geographic scope and the strength of command and control centers and forces due to participate,” Shoigu said.

The command centres and forces of China’s and Mongolia’s armed forces will be involved in the exercise.
