Putin awards Crimea's Prosecutor Poklonskaya with rank of General

Russian President Vladimir Putin awarded Crimea’s Prosecutor General Natalia Poklonskaya with the rank of Judicial Counsellor 3 Class, pro-Kremlin news agency Sputnik reports.

This military rank is similar to that of Major General. Previously, Poklonskaya served as a Senior Counsellor of Justice, which is equivalent to the rank of colonel.

In March, 2014 the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yury Chaika issued the order on creation of prosecutor’s office of the Republic of Crimea and prosecutor’s office of the city of Sevastopol in system of prosecutor’s office of the Russian Federation. Natalya Poklonskaya was appointed as the acting prosecutor of Crimea. On May 2 she was appointed as the prosecutor of the Republic of Crimea by Russian Federation Presidential Decree.

Earlier Poklonskaya said that the Crimean prosecutor’s office established the names of all EuroMaidan coordinators in Crimea and announced her intention to put them in prison.

Ukraine’s Interior Ministry put Natalia Poklonskaya on a wanted list for ‘acts committed for the purpose of forcible change or overthrow of the constitutional order or the seizure of state power, as well as conspiracy to commit such acts” (Art. 109 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

Natalia Poklonskaya became a popular Internet meme. She is a prototype for the character “Obvinyashka” [Accuser] in the free computer game ‘Prime World’.
