Prosecutor's office: Hrodna pensioners steal spontaneously

Hrodna officials analyzed statistics of theft from lockers and cash desks in stores. It was found that seniors are prone to “spontaneous theft.”

According to the Deputy Prosecutor of Hrodna Dzmitry Belazyorau, this year in Hrodna have been recorded 26 thefts of property from lockers or places nearby. Of these, 11 were committed by pensioners who had never been prosecuted. One of the last of these thefts was made by a 87-year-old woman.

These criminals are found through a CCTV system installed in almost any large store. Police sometimes broadcasts these videos urging people to identify the thief online.

“Analysis of the criminal cases leads to the conclusion that citizens make the decision to seize unattended property spontaneously, as soon as they see it,” says the Deputy Prosecutor in the article on the site of the Hrodna police.

Usually the victim forgets their belongings in the locker or forgets the phone or purse when putting the purchased items from the basket in the bag. Meanwhile, it gets noted by a “spontaneous” villain who quietly takes the things.
