Polish paraglider violates Belarusian airspace

Hrodna border guards detained a 26-year-old resident of the Polish city of Bialystok, whose paraglider landed near the village of Nyazbodzichy, which is 1.5 km from the Belarusian-Polish border.

The man had a radio station, a smartphone, a flashlight, a first aid kit, money and cards, the State Border Committee reports.

The Pole states that he he lost orientation in the air and had no intention to break the law. However, an administrative case for violation of the state border has been opened against him.

Another high-profile incident in the air attracted public attention in 2012, when a light aircraft with two Swedish pilots dropped ‘teddy troopers’ over Minsk.

In 1995, a violation of the state border ended in tragedy – Belarusian defense forces shot down a balloon that drifted by the wind to the territory of Belarus. Two U.S. citizens were dead.
