Polish Foreign Minister to visit Vaukavysk - his Mother's birtplace

During his visit to Belarus, which will take place March 21-22, Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski is to visit the city of his ancestors on his mother’s side – Vaukavysk.

“Mother of the Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs Witold Waszczykowski comes from Vaukavysk. Her family lived there before the war, and the minister’s grandfather worked at the post office. After the war, the family was forced to leave for Petrykau-Trybunalski. During his visit to Belarus on March 21-22, the head of Polish diplomacy will visit the city of his ancestors. Information about this was stated by the politician at the meeting with representatives of the Belarusian emigration organizations,” wrote in his Facebook account Belsat editor Siarhieij Pieliasa.

In late February, Witold Waszczykowski said he wanted to come to Belarus in a car to visit Minsk and “places where Poles live.”

“I believe that Belarus is our neighbor, with whom you need to normalize relations, which are still if not strenuous, but not well adjusted and unstable,” the head of the Polish Foreign Ministry said.

He added that he wanted to visit in Belarus the hometown of his mother, but it was not know what place was meant exactly. Initially, the specific date of the visit of the minister was also not reported.
