Polish Defense Minister: Russia putting pressure

Antoni Macierewicz has commented on the “Zapad-2017” exercise.

“This is actually the biggest exercise over many years. I do not know, it could be the largest drill that Russia held on our eastern flank, which has a very offensive, aggressive nature and was prepared in a way to be able to go directly to fighting,” he said in an interview with TV Resublika.

“I do not think that it could come to something like that, nothing indicates it, but their actions have this structure,” the minister added.

According to Mr Macierewicz, Russia wants to put psychological pressure and intimidate the Western elite. He noted that Germany will soon hold the parliamentary elections.

“For decades, Germany has been the main target of the Russian pressure, as getting approval of Germany de facto changes the whole European structure,” he said.

Belarusian-Russian military exercises “Zapad-2017” are being held in the territory of Belarus and Russia from 14 to 20 September. Russian troops must leave the territory of Belarus by 30 September.
