A Homiel court is considering an administrative case of the 67-year-old trade-union activist Victar Kazlou. He is accused of using foul language and disobedience to the police.

According to Kazlou, he left his house in the village of Tsyareshkavichy at 8 am on March 25. He was going to take part in a rally in Homiel. Suddenly OMON riot policemen drove up, pushed him him into their UAZ vehicle car and took to the police station. In administrative protocols they said they saw Kazlou goung through the village and heard him loudly swearing.

The riot policemen – Serdzyuk, Kurbatau and Tomash – were witnessing in court. According to one of them, Kazlou was using foul language when talking to himself. The other claimed that Kazlou might have been inslulting ‘a man who was also walking down the street. The policemen stated that the trade unionist showed resistance and grabbed them by their uniforms.

Viktar Kazlou says he is not able to speak loudly – say nothing of shouting – because a part of his lung had been recently removed due to a cancerous decease.

“After I underwent a surgery, I can hardly whisper, and they say I was shouting loudly. The riot policemen are mainswearing and confusing in the testimony. It was an intentional detention; they wanted to prevent me from participating in a rally which, by the way, was authorized by the authorities,” he stresses.

The first hearing took place on 4 April. Judge Tamara Zastavnetskaya deferred delivering the verdict to 7 April.
