Poland to resume Kalinouski scholarship scheme

MP Robert Tyszkiewicz wrote about it in the social network.

A Polish MP turned to the Polish Ministry of Education with a relevant proposal. The Ministry agreed to resume the program. “It’s time to take the next step — to provide funding for Belsat TV channel,” Mr Tyszkiewicz wrote in the social network.

The Kastus Kalinouski Scholarship program appeared after the Ploshcha protest in 2006. Then the authorities began to take revenge on the protesters — sacking them from jobs and expelling them from universities. Belarusian opposition politician Alyaksandr Milinkevich appealed to the Polish government to support the repressed students. Within a day, the Polish government developed and signed the assistance project called Kalinouski program. In the first year, the Polish universities accepted 244 ‘Kalinouski’ students. Later, about 50 people a year came to study in Poland. Last year there were only 25 of them.

There were several instances when students were expelled from universities for taking part in ‘non-parasite’ protests in 2017.
