On 13-15 May, Tallinn hosted the annual Lennart Meri conference which was dedicated to the issues of the future of Europe and NATO. At a panel discussion Yarik Kryvoi, Director of the Ostrogorski Centre, posed a question to the Foreign Minister of Poland Witold Waszczykowski about the changing perception of Belarus of the new Polish Government referring to the minister’s recent visit to Belarus.

“There is definitely a new perception in Poland because the new government is opening towards Belarus and we found preconditions, we try to open all the channels of dialogue with Belarus and keep Belarus as close as possible to Europe,” Mr Waszczykowski answered.

Interestingly, in March 2016 the visit of the Polish Foreign Minister started not from a meeting with his counterpart Uladzimir Makey and not even from that of Belarusian leader Alyaksandr Lukashenka. First Waszczykowski visited Kurapaty, the place where next to the thousands of our ancestors lying in unmarked graves also lie the Poles.
