Poland ready to lend Lukashenka furniture for 'round table'

Warsaw is ready to assist Lukashenka’s meeting with the opposition, if such a meeting happens at some point, spokesman for the Polish president Andrzej Duda, Marek Magierowski, told newspaper ‘Rzeczpospolita’.

“Of course, Poland is dependent on democratization of Belarus. Each initiative aimed at deepening the dialogue between the authorities and the opposition in Minsk is welcomed in Warsaw. If the idea of the Belarusian “round table” finds concrete forms, it will be possible to think about borrowing the famous furniture from the presidential palace,” he said.

The article notes that such an idea was born 12 years ago after the Orange Revolution. At the time, Aleksander Kwasniewski (the then President of Poland – Belsat.eu) was ready to put Ukrainians at the legendary negotiating table, where in the late 80’s the head of the Communist Poland Wojciech Jaruzelski and the first head of the “Solidarity” trade union Lech Walesa sat down for negotiations.

Lukashenka was offered to sit at the round table with the public by the chief editor of the newspaper “Narodnaya Volya” Iosif Syaredzich. The private meeting was held on February 13 at the Palace of Independence and lasted for 2 hours.
