Poland deports Russian professor for contributing to hybrid war


Dmitry K., a citizen of Russia, was deported from Poland for relations with the Russian special services, Stanisław Żaryn, a representative of Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW).

According to unofficial information, the man was a lecturer at Pułtusk Academy of Humanities, the Polish Press Agency (PAP) reports.

“This person is involved in introducing and activating the so-called elements of the hybrid war against our country as well as participating in it. The agency also found out that the person maintained contacts with the Russian intelligence,” the official told Polish TV station TVP Info.

“The deported Russian citizen lived in Poland being under the guise of cooperation with the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies (RISS) in Moscow. He introduced himself as a researcher and scholar, which resulted in the significant widening of his circle of acquaintance. He offered scientific cooperation in various research institutes and participating in conferences in Russia to people loyal to the Russian Federation. At the same time, he advising them what to say and how to formulate their statements so that it would profitable for the Russian Federation,” Żaryn said.

With the help of his ‘group’, Dmitry K. took part in inciting the Polish-Ukrainian conflict and tried to create the picture of Poland’s outrage at the demolition of Soviet monuments, he added.

It was not difficult to find the full name of the person representing the interests of pro-Putin RISS in Poland on its website. This man’s name is Dmitry Karnaukhov. According to his brief CV, he works at Novosibirsk State Pedagogical University and Pułtusk Academy of Humanities.

In 2016, Retired Lt. Gen. Leonid Reshetnikov, the then director of the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies, defended the controversial notion that the Belarusian language was created by the Central Committee of the All-Union Communist Party of the Bolsheviks in 1926.

“You have gone too far. Ukraine also crossed the line, which resulted in such bloody consequences. Do not go too far… What would you like to be proud of? Of Polish nobles and Litvin princes? … In Russia, every normal person shares my opinion. We [Belarusians and Russians] are one nation, we are members of the Union State, we will fight for being together,” Putin’s analyst summed up.

In December 2016, a Minister-Counsellor of the Russian Embassy was summoned to to Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs over a top-echelon political analyst’sdenial of the sovereignty and independence of Belarus. Leonid Reshetnikov stated that our country which is ‘historically part of Russia’ was ‘following the Ukrainian scenario’ and urged the Russian leadership ‘not to forget’ about Belarus.

In February 2017, Mikhail Fradkov, Russia’s external intelligence director in 2007-2016, was appointed Head of the RISS.
